Does My Small Biz Need a Website If We Have Social Media?

yes. yes a thousand times yes!

Short answer: YES, definitely!

If you want your business to be respected and taken seriously, a website isn’t optional—it’s a non-negotiable.

I get so frustrated when I find a brand that I like, head over to Google… and they are nowhere to be found. It’s the first step to figuring out if someone is legit. Social media is a great marketing tool — but (unless maybe you’re an influencer?**) it isn’t your whole business!

Social media is like renting a booth at a Saturday Market. You might get foot traffic, lots of likes, and even a few sales. But at 3pm, when the market closes (or ahem the algorithm changes), your booth disappears. Your website, on the other hand, is your storefront / your resume / your portfolio / your up-to-date business card / your sales manager. It’s your home base online—one you actually own. You get to decide what’s on the shelves, how it looks, and how people move through it. It’s where potential clients see that you’re legitimate, trustworthy, and here for the long haul.

**Actually let’s go back to the influencer thing. I’ve changed my mind about that too. Personally, if I were going to search for and hire an influencer, I would be more likely to hire one that has a pro website than one who doesn’t. To me, it shows that they take their job seriously. Am I old fashioned? I just think it’s GOOD business!

I digress…

I’ve worked with so many small businesses who previously (before finding me, website strategist extraordinaire!) relied only on Instagram or TikTok, and it was limiting. They came to me because it was time to reach a larger (or better) audience — an audience who could actually afford their services. They also needed a way to be found easier; Social media platforms just don’t convert the same way on Google (SEO, hunny!)

Even a simple one-page website can make a huge difference. It gives people a place to land, learn what you offer, and get in touch… without scrolling through years of old posts when you had much shorter hair.

So yes, keep up your social media presence, if it is a marketing tool that is working for you. But, make sure your posts lead somewhere like a professional website that represents your business at its best. Your website is where curiosity turns into connection, and connection turns into actual paying clients.

If your small business still doesn’t have a website (or it’s time for an upgrade), I can help. I design Squarespace websites for small business owners who are ready to look professional, get found online, and make their websites actually work for them.
